Prayer is the catalyst that allows God to be active in our lives. When we read the Psalms and study David's prayers, we realize the power behind prayer. Prayers come in many different forms. Thanksgiving, worship, adjuration, intercession, praise, repentance, request, and many more. In the Psalms, David used each of these in his prayers to God.
We are God's children . . . He chose us. Ephesians 1:4, According as He hath chosen us in Him, before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love. What does a parent give to their children? We give a child, the things they need. Sometimes, because of His wisdom, He answers our needs, rather than our wants.
Each aspect of our lives is important to God. When we come before the throne,it should be first with a repentant heart. Always remember to praise and worship God, for He is our Creator. His power and mercy are great. There is an old saying that says, "to give credit, where credit is due." Nowhere is it more important, than in our prayers. David gave credit to God for being the creator of the universe and he is always thankful for answers to his prayers. The Psalms are filled with words of praise and acknowledgement to God.
God is a wise and caring counselor, waiting to hear from His children. Prayer brings us into the presence of God. Never be too busy, or too tired to spend time in prayer. Through daily prayer, we learn to lean on God, for His guidance, and His wisdom.
I heard a story about a missionary, who was speaking with a leader of a tribe,in a foreign land. The missionary said to the leader, "we in America, pray for you and your country." The leader said, "it is you that we pray for." The missionary shook his head and said, "why would you pray for us? We have nice homes, and plenty of food and clothing." The man replied, "if you have everything you need, then what do you ask God for?" Good question. We need to remember to ask God for His divine counseling. God is our prayer partner, through the good times and the bad. Learning to lean on God, enhances our life.
Jesus broke down the barriers between God and man. Hebrews 4:16, Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. First, ask God for forgiveness, praise Him for the Wonder that He is, then ask of God, the things you need. Make God first and foremost, in your life. He asks so little, and gives so much. Learning to lean, strengthens our spirit and allows us to be filled with the tender mercy and glorious grace, of our heavenly Father.
God, I come to You, asking forgiveness for my sins.
Purify my heart and soul . . . let the healing begin.
I praise You for Your love, Your mercy and Your grace.
Let me learn to lean . . . Let me always seek Your face.
